Super-fast broadband boost for Solihull

Super-fast, fibre-based broadband is now available to the first homes and businesses in Solihull.

More than 11,000 local householders and firms in Solihull are poised to join the high-speed revolution as BT engineers complete the local upgrades over the next few weeks.

People living in the town are among the first in the UK to benefit from BT’s roll-out of fibre-based broadband, as part of plans to invest up to £2.5 billion in the technology, which could become available to around two-thirds of UK premises by 2015.

Fibre to street cabinets offers download speeds of up to 40 megabits per second (Mb/s), potentially rising to 60Mb/s in the future, and upload capability of up to 10Mb/s.

John Dovey, BT’s regional director for the West Midlands, said: “This is another exciting development in the region’s fast-moving broadband story. Households and businesses switching to super-fast broadband will soon be experiencing the internet as they have never experienced it before.

“The advent of BT fibre-based broadband in Solihull will support local jobs and the local economy and is a vital part of BT’s broadband plans for the West Midlands.
